Public Works Department Overview

The Department of Public Works has four different functions in the City of Walker. First, Building Maintenance has two full time employees that maintain nine city buildings. Second, the Parks Department has four full time employees. This department is responsible for mowing at all city buildings and parks, which amounts to about 92 acres. Third, the Motor Pool Department has two full time employees. This department is in charge of maintaining 124 vehicles, which maintain 43.45 miles of Major streets and 70.24 miles of Local streets. Maintenance of streets includes street sweeping, storm sewer cleaning, patching holes and snow removal.

The Department of Public Works provides many different services for the citizens of Walker. This is why we refer to ourselves as "Jack of all Trades."

Mission Statement: To provide a safe quality City public road system for the motoring public, as cost effective as possible, using the most current proven technology available to provide the highest quality of life for all.
