Operational Changes coming to the Walker Ice and Fitness Center
The City is pleased to announce the consolidation of its Recreation
Department with the Walker Ice and Fitness Center, effective July 1,
2010. The consolidation comes after other cost reduction measures over
the past two years, including personnel reassignments, the elimination
of some recreation programs and reductions in the hours of operation.
Combining existing recreation programs with Walker Ice and Fitness
operations will create new opportunities to enhance existing as well as
developing new programming. The plan to cross train Ice and Fitness
staff will result in improved communication with the public about the
various program offerings. The general public will also enjoy better
access through expanded hours to obtain registration and information.
Beginning July 1, all sign ups and program information will be available
at the Walker Ice and Fitness Center front desk Monday-Friday from
5:30am to 10:00pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am to 5:00pm.
Recreation offices will also be relocated from City Hall to the Walker
Ice and Fitness Center effective July 1.
